William Nassar Refuses to Receive a Musical Prize

William Nassar, the musician and political singer refused to receive his prize as composer of the best musical piece from the Quebec musical festival as he had to shake hands with a Zionist musical composer, Elena Anheil, he said I don't need that prize and may my hand be cut a thousand times before I shake the hand the representative of an occupation state of our land, which kills our children daily, and if the cost to receive the prize is conditioned by doing so, then I am not honored to receive the prize at the price of erasing out our memory and blood.
The announcement angered the festival committee, as it considered it undiplomatic, and not related to its goals, which aims a expending musical culture, and the festival has no political background. William Nassar replied to the committee in writing, it is impossible to break the relation between music and any political stance related to a just cause, music in substance aims at cultivating the spirit, thus how could a musician adopt the point of view of a state that is taking of the souls of the innocent in Palestine, Lebanon, Iraq and the Golan Heights, besides that the participation of a Zionist musician with a musical piece that she relates to Jewish heritage, which was composed by the Arabs great musician, Sayed Darwish, Ya Banat Al-Iskandariah hubukum haram (O you daughter of Alexandria your love is an ill-doing), this is a first class musical issue. After the holocaust that is taking place in Palestine and Lebanon daily, and after confiscating Palestinian Arab land, my conscience doesn't permit me to forget the raping our music, culture, heritage just to receive a prize. (Zionists also advertise all those famous traditional Arab dishes as Tabouleh, fatoush and falafel as Israeli!!!!)
Nassar added, I am aware that this action of mine shall produce many repercussions and reactions , even personal, but I am proud of my decision that I took at the time we are commemorating the 60th anniversary of the Nakbah, the raping of Palestine, as if it is a co incident to remind me of the Right of Return of the Palestinian to their cities, towns, villages and homes from which they were uprooted by the force of terror, which is the worst type of catastrophe in the history of the mankind while the whole world is kept silent or is silenced.
